I am so smitten with Amy Sedaris!
I just got back from Palo Alto where I heard Amy speak and demo some crafts from her new book Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People. She is so amazingly funny, sweet, and energetic and holy cow she can talk fast. Anyone else would have taken 2 hours to say what she did in a little over an hour.
She was wearing an amazing blue, 50s-style dress that her costume designer-friend made for her - the same person who made all the costumes in her book. Update! I've been informed the costumer is Mary Adams, who has a new book coming out The Party Dress Book.
She said in the Q&A that her favorite craft in the book is the stars made from marshmallows and toothpicks covered in glitter.
She talked a bit too about her famous cheese balls and how with the expense of cheese these days, she only makes them by special request. I found this great video of Amy on the Paula's Home Cooking show making her cheese balls...very informative, get out your pen and paper for the recipe.
I am so inspired! I want to stay up and make something!! And thanks to Raven for coming with and driving!!
F.Y.I. The woman who made those dresses and costumes, Mary Adams, has her own book coming out soon, The Party Dress Book
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you! I'm putting that on my list! I should have Googled the woman's name for my post (gave away the book I got last night, so didn't have it as a resource...lazy me!), but I'll update now. :>)
